Lake Pukaki

Data for the monitoring programme established in 2014 to monitor the Nationally Vulnerable sedge, Isolepis basilaris on the Tasman River delta at the head of Lake Pukaki.

The monitoring programme was established in 2014 by Landcare Research in conjunction with Meridian Energy Ltd and the Department of Conservation and runs for three years.

The three objectives of the project are to:

provide baseline data on the distribution and abundance of I. basilaris in relation to measured local variables (e.g. elevation, substrate, biotic interactions), to establish permanent locations for population monitoring and record initial patch sizes, and to set up a herbivory and competition field experiment and collect suitable material for glasshouse experiments of safe-site availability and establishment properties (e.g. seed production and germination rate).
