FloraOfNewZealand-Ferns-7-BrownseyPerrie-2015-L...
The family Loxsomataceae is represented in New Zealand by a single endemic genus and species which is confined to the northern part of the North Island. Loxsoma cunninghamii is a terrestrial fern with long-creeping rhizomes, marginal sori, urceolate indusia and exserted receptacles. Its closest relative is another monotypic genus, Loxsomopsis, which occurs in Central and South America. Loxsoma is currently one of only three endemic fern genera in New Zealand, and may ultimately become the sole endemic genus after further phylogenetic research.
