LC4585_WRC TEMP Review.pdf
Greater Wellington Regional Council (GWRC) contracted Manaaki Whenua – Landcare Research to evaluate two designs for their Terrestrial Ecology Monitoring Programme (TEMP). The analyses evaluated:
(1) the observed initial state and 10-year trends (2014–2023) based on the current design (5-year cycle), using an alert system to draw attention to trends of conservation concern, for the region and up to four land-cover types (indigenous forest, planted forest, scrubland and production grassland);
(2) the power to detect rapid to shallow changes in the future after 10 years of monitoring, using simulated trends applied to the current design (5-year cycle) and the proposed modified design (10-year cycle), for the region and up to four land-cover types (indigenous forest, planted forest, scrubland, and production grassland); and
(3) the expected time taken to raise early warnings for rapid to shallow changes in the future, using simulated 10-year trends applied to the current design (5-year cycle) and the proposed modified design (10-year cycle), for the region and up to four land-cover types (indigenous forest, planted forest, scrubland, and production grassland).
