Metadata for 'plant_traits.csv' Plant trait data largely drawn from Gaxiola (2006) except for DACCUP, GRILIT and SCHDIG (drawn from Forsyth et al. 2005) and NEOCOL (provided by Dr. Sarah Richardson). Sampled leaves were sun leaves from trees > 4 m height and from shrubs > 1.5 m height sampled from both alluvial and marine terraces at Waitutu forest. Measurements correspond to current-year, previous-year leaves, older leaves (typically 3-year old leaves but very occasionally older) and senescent leaves just prior to abscission. Values presented are mean trait values, with the number of underlying samples given by 'n'. Further information can be requested from Dr. Aurora Gaxiola (Aurora.Gaxiola@cantab.net). Column header abbreviations and data codes are as follows: 'species': species code; described in Table B1 and Figure B3 of Forsyth et al. (2015, Appendix B). 'site': either alluvial ('a'), medium marine terrace ('m'), alluvial and medium ('a&m'), older marine terraces ('t'), or Franz Joseph ('FJ'). 'LL_months': leaf longevity (in months). 'N_mg/g': leaf total Nitrogen concentration (in mg/g). 'P_mg/g': leaf total Phosphorous concentration (in mg/g). 'Amax_nanomol/(g^1 sec^1)': light-saturated photosynthetic rates per unit mass (Amax; in nanoomoles/(g^1 sec^1)). 'LMA_g/m2': leaf mass per unit area (in g/m^2). 'n': number of samples. 'leafage': current-year ('c'), previous-year leaves ('p'), older typically 3-year old leaves ('o'), senescent leaves just prior to abscission ('s'). 'Rmass_nanomol/(g^1 sec^1)': dark respiration per unit mass (Rmass; in nanomoles/(g^1 sec^1)). Gaxiola A. 2006.
